These behave differently and both must be planned for. Structural engineers distinguish carefully here, because the impact of a heavy deadlift session generates transient forces several times the actual weight of the object, and unplanned impulse loads can cause subfloor delamination.

Two practical rules govern most strength fit-outs. First, ground-floor concrete slabs are strongly preferred.
