Is the VERVE Satori Power Rack (1.95m) a good entry-level power rack?

You want to squat, bench and pull at home without paying a gym every month. Then you measure the garage and the ceiling says no to a full-height cage. That is the problem the Satori 1.95m exists to solve.

It is the same Satori design VERVE has sold for years, cut down to 1950mm. You keep the 75 x 75mm uprights, the 25mm Westside hole spacing for fine bench setup, sandwich J-hooks, pin pipe safeties, a knurled chin-up bar and a lifetime frame guarantee. You keep the floor footprint too: 1334 x 1164mm.

The verdict: for a home or garage gym with a ceiling too low for a 2300mm rack, it is the rack to start with, because it is the only VERVE rack in this guide that fits under that height. If your ceiling is 2.4m or more and you plan to press overhead or do pull-ups inside the rack, spend about $500 more on the Zen. If floor space, not height, is your limit, look at the Wall Mounted Folding Squat Rack.

What each feature means for you:

• 25mm Westside spacing means you set the J-hooks and safeties at the height that suits your arch and arm length on the bench, not the nearest hole that is close enough.
• Sandwich J-hooks in the box mean you can rack a bar for squats and bench on day one, with nothing extra to buy.
• Pin pipe safeties in the box mean you can train alone from day one. Set them just below the bottom of every squat and bench press, and a missed rep goes onto the pipes, not onto you.
• The knurled chin-up bar gives you grip for pull-ups and chin-ups without buying a separate bar.

Not in the box: a barbell, plates, a bench, band pegs and plate storage. The Satori's product copy does not list band pegs or plate holders, so plan for storage. VERVE's Satori Flat Bench ($179) and Satori Adjustable Bench ($349) are the two benches in the same range.

Who the Satori 1.95m suits

Low ceilings and garages

Australia's building code sets the minimum ceiling height for a garage at 2.1m, against 2.4m for most habitable rooms (NCC 2022 Housing Provisions, clause 10.3.1). A garage built to that minimum leaves about 150mm above a 1950mm rack. The Zen, the Commercial Half Rack and the Wall Mounted Folding Squat Rack all stand 2296mm to 2300mm tall, so none of them fits under a ceiling lower than 2300mm, and in practice you want some clearance above that.

Measure at the exact spot the rack will stand, not in the middle of the room. Garage door tracks, roller door motors, beams and light fittings all sit lower than the ceiling line.

An entry point to the VERVE rack system

The Satori 1.95m is the entry point to VERVE's four-post racks. You get a full cage with safeties and J-hooks in the box, on the same 75 x 75mm upright size as the rest of the range. You can grow into a bench, storage and selected attachments later. Read the attachments section before you plan that growth, because the shorter frame changes what fits.

Who should look elsewhere

• Taller lifters doing pull-ups or overhead work inside the rack. The chin-up bar sits at the top of a 1950mm frame, so you may need to bend your knees on pull-ups. A standing press takes the bar above head height, so most lifters will press outside the rack. If you have the ceiling, the Zen is the better frame for this.
• Lifters who want heavier steel. The Satori uses 2mm steel. The Zen, the Commercial Half Rack and the Wall Mounted Folding Squat Rack use 3mm. VERVE's product copy does not publish a load rating for the Satori, so if you plan to train very heavy, ask VERVE before you buy.
• Anyone tight on floor space rather than height. A four-post rack needs 1334 x 1164mm of floor plus room to load the bar. The folding wall rack sits 10cm off the wall when folded.

Whatever ceiling you have, it still limits a standing overhead press. A short rack makes the rack fit; it does not make room for the bar above your head. Stand where you will press, lock your arms out overhead and check the clearance before you plan overhead work.

What changed from the full-height Satori

The full-height VERVE Satori Power Rack is discontinued, and its product page now redirects to the 1.95m model. The honest summary: it is the same rack, 346mm shorter.

Two things are worth knowing. First, the price is $50 more than the full-height model last sold for. Second, the attachment claim is narrower. That is not a downgrade in the steel; it is physics. Some VERVE attachments stand taller than 1950mm, so they cannot be assumed to fit a shorter frame.

Satori 1.95m vs VERVE's other racks

Satori 1.95m vs Wall Mounted Folding Squat Rack ($699)

The Wall Mounted Folding Squat Rack is the only VERVE rack under $1,000, and it wins on floor space. Its 75 x 75mm, 3mm steel uprights fold back to sit 10cm off the wall, so the car still fits when you finish. It has a recommended maximum load of 300kg, and a 29mm pull-up bar and a pair of sandwich J-hooks come in the box.

It does not solve a low ceiling. It stands 2300mm tall, 350mm taller than the Satori 1.95m. It also needs a wall to mount to, and no safeties are listed in the box, so confirm a safety option with VERVE before you train heavy alone on it. Choose it when floor space is your limit and the ceiling is not. Choose the Satori when the ceiling is the limit, or when you want a freestanding cage with safeties included.

Satori 1.95m vs Commercial Half Rack ($999)

The Commercial Half Rack uses 3mm steel on 75 x 75mm uprights with laser cut Westside spacing, and comes with sandwich J-hooks, pin pipe safeties and a knurled pull-up bar. VERVE's copy lists squats, bench press, overhead press, rack pulls and pull-ups from the one station. As a half rack, it is open at the front.

The trade-off is size. It stands 2300mm tall and runs 1650mm deep, against 1164mm for the Satori. It costs about $250 more at the time of writing. Pick the half rack if you have the height and depth and want heavier steel. Pick the Satori if either dimension is tight.

Satori 1.95m vs Zen Power Rack ($1,399)

The Zen Power Rack shares the Satori's 1334 x 1164mm footprint and 25mm Westside spacing, but stands 2296mm tall and uses 3mm steel. In the box you get sandwich J-hooks, safety straps, a pull-up bar, 4 band pegs and 2 Olympic plate holders.

Choose the Zen when you have the ceiling for it and you want to press overhead or do pull-ups inside the rack, or you simply want heavier steel and more included. The gap is about $500 at the time of writing. If you want more storage and room, the Zen Power Rack with Extension Kit is $1,989 (was $2,798). Choose the Satori 1.95m when your ceiling rules the Zen out, or when you want the lowest cost into a four-post VERVE rack and are happy to add storage later.

Attachments: what fits the Satori 1.95m

The Satori 1.95m product page says you can add "compatible VERVE rack attachments". It does not list them. Most VERVE attachment pages were written when the only Satori was full height, so treat any Satori fit claim below as written for that rack. Upright size and Westside spacing are unchanged; height is not. Send VERVE your rack model and confirm the fit before you pay, which is what every VERVE attachment page asks you to do anyway.

The rule of thumb: attachments that bolt to the base or sit low on the uprights are the strongest candidates, because the footprint and upright size have not changed. Anything taller than 1950mm, such as the Smith Machine Attachment, needs a confirmed answer from VERVE before you plan your gym around it.

Buying, finance and delivery

1. Measure. Ceiling height at the exact spot, plus 1334 x 1164mm of floor and room to load plates on both sides.
2. Confirm the extras. If you want attachments, send VERVE your plan and confirm the fit. VERVE also offers free 3D gym design if you want to see the layout first.

Buy the wrong rack and you either cannot stand it up, or you pay again in a year for the one you needed. Get the height right first and the Satori 1.95m gives you a full cage, with safeties, that suits the room you actually have.
