Competition Kettlebells

Before you add a Kettlebell to your exercise equipment collection, it's worth learning about the two main types of Kettlebells available. The most obvious difference between the two, is that competition Kettlebells have a smaller handle that's squarish in shape. The reason for this is that competition Kettlebells are designed for one-handed use.

The other difference is that comptition Kettlebells are the same shape and size even when you increase the weight. This is due to an increase in density.

Many kettlebell workouts involve a swinging motion. The smaller handle of the comp versions makes swinging less than ideal. With that in mind, competition Kettlebells are best suited to strength training.

Classic Kettlebells

Not only do classic Kettlebells have larger handles, but it's also much more comfortable to swing them around. The higher the weight, the larger the classic kettlebells will be, because each is a nice chunk of cast iron.

If you consider yourself a beginner when it comes to Kettlebells, then you should go with the classic version for your home gym equipment collection. As you get more comfortable with the equipment, you could eventually build up to a competition version and maybe even join official competitions if you're up for it.

Kettlebell Exercises

As you work out with your new Kettlebell, you'll soon realise why it's such a respected piece of gym equipment. From using them to reinforce squats, to doing overhead presses, the possibilities are almost endless.

Swinging the Kettlebell back and forth between your legs has a wide range of health benefits, including strengthening your back muscles, glutes, hamstrings and even preventing backaches and pains.

One of our favourite exercises involves swinging the Kettlebell around our hips like a hula hoop and switching hands. You can also switch directions to keep the muscles guessing.
