You train hard. You take it seriously. And at some point, squat stands, and a mate spotting you just aren't going to cut it anymore.
A power rack is the single most important piece of equipment in any serious home gym or commercial space. It's where you squat, bench, press, and pull. It's where you go heavy, train alone safely, and build the kind of strength that actually transfers to real life.
But not all racks are created equal. Thin steel, wobbly uprights, cheap J-hooks that chew up your barbell, safety bars you don't trust. We've seen it all. And we built the VERVE range specifically to solve those problems.
This guide breaks down everything you need to know about choosing the right power rack, what actually matters in the construction, and which VERVE rack fits your training, your space, and your goals.
What is a power rack (and why you need one).
A power rack (also called a power cage) is a four- or six-post steel frame with adjustable J-hooks and safety bars. You stand inside it to squat, bench press, overhead press, and more. Unlike a Smith machine, the barbell moves freely, so you're training real movement patterns with real stability demands.
That matters. Free-weight compound lifts build more muscle, more strength, and more functional capacity than guided machines. But they also carry risk if you don't have a safe setup for when a rep doesn't go to plan.
A power rack solves that. Safety bars or straps catch the barbell if you fail. J-hooks let you set the bar at exactly the right height. And once you start adding attachments, a single rack can replace half a commercial gym floor.
If you train with barbells and weight plates, a power rack isn't optional. It's the foundation.
What to look for in a power rack.
Before we get into the VERVE lineup, here's what separates a rack you'll trust for years from one you'll regret in six months.

Upright size and steel thickness.
This is the single biggest indicator of rack quality. Most budget racks use 60mm x 60mm uprights with 2mm wall thickness. That's fine until it isn't. Under heavy loads, thin steel flexes. Over time, it fatigues.
VERVE racks use 75mm x 75mm uprights across the entire range. The Zen Power Rack steps up to 3mm wall thickness, which means 86% more steel than a typical 60mm x 60mm x 2mm competitor rack. You can feel the difference the moment you rerack a heavy squat.
Hole spacing.
Standard racks use 50mm hole spacing. That's workable for squats, but for bench press setup, the difference between "close enough" and "exactly right" is the difference between a safe rep and a sketchy one.
VERVE racks use Westside hole spacing: 25mm increments at the top and bottom of the uprights (where bench press and overhead press positioning matters most), with 50mm spacing through the centre. This gives you precise J-hook and safety bar placement where it counts.
J-hooks and safeties.
Cheap J-hooks with bare metal contact will destroy your barbell knurling over time. VERVE uses premium sandwich J-hooks with protective liners across the range. They grip the bar firmly without chewing it up.
For safeties, the Zen comes with a strap safety system as standard. Straps absorb energy on a failed rep more gradually than rigid pins, which is easier on your barbell and easier on your joints if you dump a squat.
Laser-cut numbering.
This sounds minor until you've spent five minutes trying to count holes to make sure your J-hooks are level. Laser-cut numbers on the uprights mean instant, accurate setup every session. No stickers that peel off. Etched directly into the steel.
Attachment ecosystem.
A power rack should grow with you. The VERVE range is built on a universal attachment system, so whether you start with a Zen or a Satori, you can add dip handles, lat pulldown stations, Power Arms, cable attachments, and more as your training evolves.
Finish quality.
Paint chips. Powder coat doesn't (or at least, it takes a lot more to do it). Every VERVE rack uses matte black powder coat, not paint. It looks better longer, resists scratches from plates and barbells, and holds up to the kind of daily abuse a serious training rack actually takes.
The VERVE power rack range.
Every training space is different. Every lifter has different priorities. That's why we built seven distinct racks, not seven versions of the same thing. Here's how they break down.

The flagship. Commercial-grade construction for home gym prices.
The Zen is where most serious home gym owners end up, and for good reason. It's built to the same standard as racks you'd find in a well-equipped commercial facility, but sized to fit a standard garage or spare room.
Why it stands out:
● 75mm x 75mm x 3mm uprights. That 3mm wall thickness is commercial-grade. This rack doesn't flex under load.
● 145kg of steel. It's not going anywhere, even without floor bolts.
● Westside hole spacing with laser-cut numbering for precise, repeatable setup.
● Comes loaded out of the box: premium sandwich J-hooks, strap safety system, two Olympic plate storage horns, four band pegs, and a pull-up bar. No expensive add-ons needed to start training properly.
● Compatible with the full VERVE attachment ecosystem, including the Zen Extension Kit for a six-post configuration and Power Arms V2 that replace up to 12 pin/plate loaded machines.
● Lifetime frame guarantee.
Dimensions: 1164mm (D) x 1334mm (W) x 2296mm (H)
Best for: Serious home gym owners who want one rack that does everything, lasts forever, and never needs upgrading. Also ideal for personal training studios, garage gyms, and small commercial spaces.

VERVE Satori Power Rack
$1,099
$1,299
Satori (悟り) is a Japanese Buddhist term for awakening, "comprehension; understanding". In the Zen Buddhist tradition, satori refers to a deep experience of kenshō, "seeing into one's true nature". Ken means "seeing," shō means "nature" or "essence". The VERVE Satori… read more
Same DNA, leaner build. For lifters who want quality without the extras.
The Satori shares the Zen's footprint and 75mm x 75mm upright size, but uses 2mm wall thickness instead of 3mm. It's a lighter, more accessible entry point into the VERVE ecosystem without compromising on the things that actually matter: hole spacing, attachment compatibility, and build integrity.
Why it stands out:
● 75mm x 75mm x 2mm uprights. Still significantly heavier steel than most competitors in this category.
● Westside hole spacing for precise bar positioning.
● Includes sandwich J-hooks and a knurled chin-up bar.
● Compatible with all VERVE rack attachments (except the lat low row station).
● Lifetime frame guarantee.
● Same dimensions as the Zen, so you can start with the Satori and upgrade components over time.
Dimensions: 1164mm (D) x 1334mm (W) x 2296mm (H)
Best for: Home gym owners building their setup over time. Start with the Satori, add safety straps, plate storage, and band pegs as you go. Same VERVE quality, scaled to a tighter starting budget.

Open front, full capability. For spaces that need flow.
Not every space suits a full cage. The Commercial Half Rack gives you the structural integrity and safety features of a power rack with an open front design that improves movement flow and accessibility. Walk in, walk out. No ducking under crossbeams.
Why it stands out:
● Open front design for easy bar path on cleans, front squats, and step-outs.
● Commercial-grade construction built to handle facility-level usage.
● Same VERVE build quality: thick steel, powder coat finish, precise hole spacing.
● Ideal for spaces where multiple users need quick access and turnover.
Best for: Commercial gyms, CrossFit boxes, group training spaces, and home gyms where you value open sightlines and movement freedom over full cage enclosure.
