Interviewing Josh Curry from Raising The Bar

Q. Tell us about your gym and what was your vision behind creating Raising The Bar.

I wanted to create a modern, clean gym with functionality, focusing purely on weight training as we have no cardio equipment in the gym. We have five power cages in a 260 square meter space that shows our intent to be a strength training gym.

Q. Who does Raise The Bar cater for?

We cater for men and women of all experience levels as long as the goal is to improve their body composition and strength.

Q. What makes Raise The Bar different from other gyms?

We managed to build a system that allows us to "Personal Train" our clients up to 4 times per week for the price of 1 PT session, giving them optimal training every time they train at a fraction of the price.

Our head coaches are qualified exercise scientists that bring that next level of expert program design and coaching. We have no lock-in contracts because we rely on actually getting our clients results to keep them on board. We let our results do the talking!

Q. Tell us about your experience working with VERVE.

I ended up working very closely with one of the team from VERVE. We had multiple conversations about the best layout of the gym, what equipment to use, the space our equipment would require, etc. So many things I hadn't thought! That was one of the most valuable parts of working with VERVE, their expertise and guidance in making sure my project was exactly how I wanted it to be, and all elements were covered completely.

Q. Why VERVE?

I liked the look of their equipment and the range they had as I required a fair few specialised pieces. In particular, I like the extensive barbell selection they offer as I wanted different barbells for different lifts. After having calls with other equipment brands, VERVE was the most helpful in terms of giving me advice on my gym; combined with how good the quality and the look of their equipment is; it was an easy decision to make.

Q. What does the future hold for Raise The Bar?

Right now, we are just trying to build our client base and are growing fast! Once we have this gym full, we will look at opening Raise The Bar 2.0!
